Volunteer Jeanne Connolly plays addition games with the first graders. Games are an integral part of learning, discussing, and practicing computation strategies in the early years. The games require mathematical thinking to play. As children become more familiar with the game, they become more efficient and fluent in their computation.
Your child's Student Math Handbook (First - Fourth Grade) has the game directions in the back of the book. If your child wishes to play one of the games at home and you don't have the materials, either look on my web page, under games, to download materials, or send in a note to your child's teacher and we will send home any materials that you need. - Adrienne David, Math Specialist
